Barker Associated Management, LLC, (BAM) is a full service, regional real estate property management firm with headquarters in Metropolitan Detroit.  Our commitment is to produce results at a reasonable cost, maximizing earnings for our clients while enhancing the life of the residents in the communities we manage.

 

Our Credentials

Anthony J. Barker and The Associated Management Company are the principals of BAM.  Both are acknowledged, respected leaders in the real estate industry and in the business and civic sectors of the community.  Additionally, each has extensive training and experience in marketing and management.

 

Anthony J. Barker has more than 25 years of experience in management of all types of housing including affordable, student and market rate apartments.   This experience includes for-profit and non-profit management and encompasses extensive work with boards of directors and private owners.

 

The Associated Management Company, headed by Dennis J. Varian, provides property management and marketing services for properties affiliated with Varian and his partners.  In addition, The Associated Management Company does a limited amount of fee management for others.  The officers of the company include Clio A. Hanks, Kathleen Grabowski and Catherine Murphy.  Combined the officers have a total of more than 100 years of professional property management experience.   This experience includes senior, multi-family and supportive housing in MSHDA, HUD and LIHTC properties.

Property Management

Our policies and priorities bear the mark of meticulous cultivation perfected through the years.  Time-tested practices, practical experience, innovative and creative techniques, and rich human resources are behind the success of the BAM managed properties.

 

BAM Team Leaders

At BAM we assign a Team Leader that oversees the total operation of all properties under their control.  They will oversee everything from the financial condition and reporting of the communities to the compliance with regulations and the physical condition of the communities.  The Property Executive will report directly to them. We have found that this additional level of direct oversight increases to the success of the communities we manage.

 

BAM Property Executives

Uniquely well qualified by virtue of experience alone, BAM Property Executives are continually educated in the best practices of professional property management.  For this training we use the nationally recognized programs of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and the National Apartment Association (NAA). Each Property Executive will have a limited number of communities they are in charge of so they will have adequate time to property manage.

 

BAM Property Executives have been fully screened prior to employment.  They are continually involved in professional development, working toward additional certification, attending national and regional conferences and seminars as well as receiving quality in house training.  We require all Property Executives to be bright, pleasant, hardworking and committed to world class customer service.

 

Communications and Reporting

Effective communication and reporting systems are fundamental to the success of apartment communities and other rental property.  BAM clients are informed clients.  Clear, concise and pertinent data is transmitted on a regular basis.  The reporting systems in place at BAM provide complete, timely and accurate information necessary to formulate sound decisions.  Reporting systems and procedures used have been perfected over the more than 25 years of successful operations.

BAM is a Fee Management Company

We remain totally third party, with no conflicts of interest.  However, it is our belief that the only effective way to manage communities is to treat each of them as we do our own.  We make every decision based on what is best for the community and the owners based on the owners objectives.  We have found that to be effective sufficient resources must be put into the oversight of each community.  It is our philosophy to ensure that we do not overload the team overseeing a property.

Construction Coordination and Oversight

Our record in repair and renovation includes rehabilitation enterprises ranging in cost from $5,000 to $5 million dollars.  We have overseen rehabilitation, remodeling, repair work and detailed finish-out for a variety of multi-family projects. 

 

We offer more than technical expertise in construction supervision at BAM.  Careful planning and scheduling of work minimizes inconvenience to apartment residents.  Effective communication with residents during construction helps maintain high occupancy rates. 

 

When it is cost effective, BAM uses on-site staff and local suppliers.  We set the same high standards for our work in construction supervision that we have set for our management, leasing, consulting and brokerage services.  Our staff is experienced and committed to staying up-to-date on current changes in the industry.

We believe it is important to have an active role in the property management industry.  This is important in order to help to make changes in legislation and other polices that effect our industry.  We are leaders in numerous industry trade associations. 

 

Anthony Barker is currently active on a National level with the IREM Foundation, Treasurer of the Detroit Metropolitan Apartment Association (DMAA) and a member of the Michigan Housing Council (MHC) Board of Directors.  Dennis Varian is a current board member of MHC and past chairman and President.  Jennifer Harley, Property Executive, is President of the Northern Michigan Property Management Association.  Kathleen Grabowski is a board member for The DMAA and Clio Addington Hanks is the current president of the Property Management Association of Michigan (PMAM).
